travels
| Without a doubt, my travels to emerging economies have shaped my worldviews.
In fall 2008, I spent the semester in Shanghai, China. Although prior to my junior year of college I had only traveled within the United States, I wanted to challenge myself to dive headfirst into a new culture. Over the preceding two decades, the world’s eyes shifted their focus to China and I wanted to be able experience this mysterious nation first hand. Not knowing a word of Mandarin or any other people I would be traveling with, I flew 15 hours to Shanghai for a life altering four months. During the winter break of 2011/12, I traveled to India for one month. I spent two weeks working on a joint planning studio between Georgia Tech and CEPT University in Ahmedabad, where we explored the redevelopment possibilities of slums in a rapidly developing part of the city. For the other two weeks, I traveled across the country to seven additional cities. Nothing--not even a semester in China--could have prepared me for India!
