At Enterprise Innovation Institute (EII), I was formally introduced to local economic development as a graduate research assistant with the Community Innovation Services group. Community Innovation Services provides technical economic development assistance and research to communities and organizations throughout Georgia. During my time with this group, I’ve worked on a range of projects where I learned about economic development by researching many different topics and issues, providing technical data analysis, and creating different reports and presentations.
A highlight from my time at EII has been a workforce development project that I led for Columbus, GA. Although a traditional workforce development study had been completed a few years earlier, the Chamber’s workforce development director wanted a supplementary report that focused on interviews with hiring managers to better reflect the current economic conditions. After interviewing over two dozen hiring managers, analyzing local economic and educational indicators, and identifying appropriate strategies and implementation techniques, I completed two reports (below). These reports, along with presentations I gave to local education and business leaders, served as a kickoff to a new workforce development initiative in the Columbus region. .
