After spending the previous year working for three different brokers in Massachusetts, it was an exciting change to work for one of the world’s largest investors of real estate. I worked for AIGGRE’s finance team, which allowed me to work among all different asset classes and geographic regions. For the 1000 separate real estate entities in 50 separate countries, I analyzed and interpreted the various accounting treatments to check with compliance with GAAP, FASB, and SEC accounting standards and regulations. Through this process, I explored how AIGGRE investment vehicles and general private equity real estate funds behave as investment companies. As a culmination project, I presented to AIG Investment mangers how real estate funds are structured to follow the
Investment Company Guide’s standards and regulations.
Working at AIGGRE was an invaluable opportunity to explore, at a very detailed level, how billions of investor’s dollars are structured, allocated, and flow among a complex network of entities around the world.
